Rita's & Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation: A Sweet Partnership
In 2006, Rita's Italian Ice became a proud corporate partner of Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to funding pediatric cancer research and finding a cure for the disease. Named in honor of the late Alexandra “Alex” Scott, the foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) public charity, has raised more than $30 million to fight the disease that claimed its namesake’s life.
When embarking on the fundraising initiative, Rita’s set a goal to raise $100,000 by selling paper lemons to Rita’s guests for $1 each at every store location. With the support of our guests, franchise partners and Treat Team members, Rita’s raised a remarkable $510,000 for the foundation – more than five times the original goal.
In 2007, Rita's continued to fight pediatric cancer and raised $530,000 for ALSF and in 2008, Rita's franchise partners and guests raised $520,000 to help ALSF. In June 2009, Rita's raised $450,000 to help find a cure for childhood cancer.
And in June 2010, Rita's raised an additional $575,000 for ALSF during its annual fundraising campaign--the largest donation to date! Since partnering with ALSF in 2006, Rita’s has donated more than $2.5 million to help fight pediatric cancer and has become the foundation’s largest corporate donor.
Whether in the individual regions in which we operate or across the 18 states we call home, Rita’s franchise partners, Treat Team members and Cool Support Center staff stand united in our commitment to give back to the communities where our guests live and work. Quite simply, supporting causes that our guests care about is another way to deliver on our brand promise of happiness.
